Chair a committee at TMUN 2026
Chairpersons run the debate. You don't represent a country — you moderate the room, hold the procedure, guide the delegates who get stuck and set the pace of the three days. It's the most demanding role in a committee and, for anyone who has been a delegate, the natural next step.
You moderate
Roll call, speeches, caucuses, amendments, voting. You keep order and time, and you decide which motions reach the floor.
You guide delegates
Especially the first-timers. A good chair is the difference between a delegate who says nothing for three days and one who leaves convinced.
You prepare the committee
You work with the secretariat on the study guide and the materials delegates receive before the conference.
You assess
At the end, chairs are the ones who nominate the committee's awards — Best Delegate and the rest.
The process
How you become a chairperson
Create an account and pick "Chairperson"
No invitation code needed. Applications are open to anyone with MUN experience.
Choose three committees, in order of preference
From UNICEF, UNHCR, INTERPOL and NATO. They must be three different committees.
Write the essays
One essay for each of your three committees — 80–250 words each — plus one essay about your MUN experience, 100–350 words.
This is where selection is decided. Write about why that committee and what you'd do with it, not generalities.
The secretariat reviews and assigns
If you're selected, you receive your assigned committee by email — not necessarily your first choice, depending on how the team balances out.
Confirm your place
Only now do you pay the 14.90 RON that confirms your seat. If you've changed your mind, or the assigned committee doesn't suit you, you can cancel at no cost.
About the fee
Apply free, pay only if you're selected
Applying as a chairperson costs nothing and requires no payment upfront. The 14.90 RON appears only after the secretariat has accepted you and assigned your committee — it's a nominal seat-confirmation fee, not the price of the role.
For comparison, a delegate pays between 149.90 and 199.90 RON. Meals and the conference kit are included either way.
Committees open for chairing
Pick three
- UNICEF — children's rights, education and protection. The committee with the most first-time delegates, so also the one that demands the most patience.
- UNHCR — refugees, asylum and durable solutions. Hard debate, with sharply opposed national positions.
- INTERPOL — cross-border crime, trafficking and cybercrime. Fast-paced, with a crisis element.
- NATO — collective defence and strategy in the North Atlantic Council. The most technical of the four.
